The Musnad of Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal (d. 241 AH), transmitted through his son Abdullah, is one of the most extensive and highly regarded collections of hadith in Islamic scholarship, containing tens of thousands of narrations. Because the original Musnad is arranged by narrator rather than by subject, it can be difficult for students and readers to locate hadith on a specific topic.

This edition solves that problem: it has been carefully re-arranged by topic (tabweeb) by Abdul Mannan Umar and issued under the supervision of Da’irah al-Ma’arif al-Islamiyyah, Lahore. The hadith are grouped into books (kutub) covering Faith and Knowledge, Purification, Prayer, Funeral Rites, Zakat, Fasting, the Qur’an, Supplications, the Rites of Hajj, and Jihad — allowing readers to use it much like the six canonical Sunan works, moving directly to the chapter they need.
